Clone Wars
We're sure that you’ve all heard the term “clone" uttered by winemakers about what makes their latest drop special.
But what are clones and how do they affect the taste of the wine?
We’ve managed to source six single clone Pinot Noir wines to allow you to see for yourself.
Most of the wines are from Helen’s Hill Vineyard in the Yarra Valley. The first is a 2022 vintage from the 943 Clone (Dijon). We then have three wines made from the Abel or “Gumboot” Clone, allegedly from souvenired clippings from the Domaine de là Romanée-Conti Vineyard. The first is a premium wine from Pooley Wines in Coal River. The next is a 2022 from Helen’s Hill while the third is from Maluka estate in the Otway Ranges in Victoria. The last two wines take us back to 2021 at Helen's Hell, one from the D4V5 “Pommard” clone and the other from the MV6 – Mother Vine propagated from Clos Vougeot cuttings.
So join us to discuss clones, terroir, and winemaking while tasting top-quality wines.
James Hill will be presenting a delicious duck dish to accompany the wines.
